Stop saying “Thank you for your service”

Stop saying “Thank you for your service”.
Afghanistan Veterans and families of those Veterans:
The American people need to ask for their forgiveness for allowing this tragedy to ever occur. As a Vietnam Veteran, at least I can have a positive feeling that we were instrumental in ending the Cold War. But for these service men and women, all that we can do is bow our heads in shame and make amends for our wrongs in allowing our government to lead us on for so long. How do we gain their trust back? I have no idea. I am speechless as to what to say to a child, parent, or spouse that lost their loved one or had them return maimed and limbless from this charade. I can only ask for their forgiveness. You do not say “Thank you for your service.”
