| County Commission Disallows National Day of PrayerThe National Day of Prayer is an annual observance designated by the United States Congress. Since 1952, the President of the United States has been required by law to sign a yearly proclamation encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. The National Day of Prayer has been held at the Doña Ana County Government Building every year since 2015 (with the exception of 2 years during COVID). Last week, the Doña Ana County Commission voted to disallow the National Day of Prayer to be held at the County Government Building. This motion, brought forward by Commissioner Christopher Schaljo-Hernandez, passed by a 4-to-1 vote. You can watch the full discussion and vote here: |
| Injunction Filed Against County CommissionAs a result of the unlawful vote to disallow the National Day of Prayer, Pastor Gene Petit has filed an injunction against the Doña Ana County Commission. The injunction asserts that the Commission has violated multiple Constitutionally-protected rights, including the rights to peaceably assemble and the right to freely practice one’s religion. |
