County Commission to Issue Insulting National Day of Prayer Proclamation at 23 April BOCC Meeting

The local National Day of Prayer task force has been working on mirroring the federal law (Public Law 100-307, May 5, 1988, 36 U.S. Code § 119 – National Day of Prayer) in Doña Ana County. The same proclamation template has been presented as in previous years. Last year’s template was adopted after a section was struck out. This year, for unknown reasons, the Doña Ana County Commissioners have decided to write and present their own version. The two proclamations can be compared below. The Commission plans to present and proclaim their proclamation this Tuesday, April 23rd at the County Commission meeting. This year’s proclamation is insultingly weak and doesn’t even mention God and misses the point of a day of prayer.

2024 Proclamation

Invited are those interested to bring public comment to the County Commission Meeting at the County Building Tuesday April 23 at 9am. The meeting agenda looks light enough that they may get to the proclamations by 9:30am.

Thank you to Michael Simmons, RPDA Secretary, for the original draft of this announcement.
