LAS CRUCES – Looking for a way to honor our veterans this Memorial Day weekend? Here are three events in the Las Cruces area open to the public. 

Saturday, May 28: Gravesite Flag Placing at Masonic Cemetery at 8 a.m.

Join the El Perro Diablo Marine Corps League Detachment #478 of Las Cruces bright and early to help place American flags on the gravestones of the 400 veterans buried at Masonic Cemetery. The group will start distributing flags at 8 a.m. and all are encouraged to join. For any questions about the event, call Joe Montoya at 575-571-7728. 

Monday, May 30: Wreath-laying at West Picacho-Rio Grande River crossing at 8 a.m.

At 8 a.m. sharp, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10124 will be holding a wreath-laying ceremony at the Picacho-Rio Grande crossing. All attendees are encouraged to bring flowers to honor their loved ones who died in conflict. Exact directions to the location will be posted on the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10124 Facebook page. Monday, May 30th: Ceremony at Hillcrest Cemetery at 9 a.m.

The El Perro Diablo Marine Corps League Detachment #478 of Las Cruces will be holding a ceremony at Hillcrest Cemetery at 9 a.m. to play “Taps” and bagpipes to honor the memory of soldiers who lost their lives while serving. For any questions about the event, call Joe Montoya at 575-571-7728.
