More mandated paid leave, Voter Summit and more…

Dear Juan,
NMBC President Carla Sonntag participated in a taskforce on proposed Paid Family Medical Leave Act (PFMLA) to represent the best interests of New Mexico businesses. Carla surveyed businesses throughout the state, giving them a glimpse of what could be a reality, if this legislation is passed in 2023.
How did business owners respond? Read more HERE.
The Election Integrity Network is hosting a Summit in New Mexico tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct 19, encouraging all voters to become involved and knowledgeable about our local election systems. This process worked for Virginia in 2021, and it can work for New Mexico in 2022 and beyond! NMBC President Carla Sonntag will be a presenter and we hope you can join us! Check out the Summit Agenda and RSVP HERE.
Every Vote Counts: Early voting at County Clerk offices is available now and expanded early voting at numerous locations around the state starts Saturday, October 22nd. Election day is November 8; get detailed information on voting locations or your county HERE.
The election will be over soon and NMBC is already planning our Post-Election Heroes BASH (Business and Social Hour) on December 8. This is an opportunity to honor some of New Mexico’s public safety Heroes and Veterans. Tickets are available HERE and will include admission to a Dueling Pianos show after the BASH. Sponsorship opportunities for this event can be found HERE.
Bond Issues and Constitutional Amendments (CA) are on the ballot this year and it’s important to know what they are and how they will affect you. Important decisions are on the ballot this year to include a harmful proposal to take more money annually out of the state land grant permanent fund and several bond issues that could impact property taxes. Read more about CA and Bond Issues HERE.
All State Representatives are currently on the ballot and who we vote into office matters. The laws that New Mexico House representatives make impact our lives in some way. NMBC will continue to profile several of the contested races from around the state up until Election Day so voters can see where each candidate stands on important issues. This week, we want to profile House District 33 and House District 37, both in the Las Cruces and Mesilla area:
NMBC has voter information on all contested House racesand other candidate information HERE.
As we get closer to the holidays, NMBC is partnering with Rebound New Mexico to help needy families during this upcoming season and give back to our community. Through donations from our members and others outside of our organization, our goal is to bring the community together to support the less fortunate and give people hope. You can find more information on this gift drive HERE or donate money for this drive HERE.
Albuquerque homeless camps update: Santa Barbara Martineztown Neighborhood Association is cautiously optimistic following a City of Albuquerque land use hearing officer’s ruling halting progress on the city sanctioned homeless encampment planned in close proximity to the Menaul School. Read more HERE.
