EDUCATION vs PARENTAL EXPECTATIONS -a post by Rob Wood

Education Versus Parental Expectations

When one asks a question be ready for an answer.

Over ten years ago I asked my State Representative why NM K-12 outcome was so dismal. Without even the slightest pause his answer was, “Parents have low expectations of their children”. A few years later I was seated on a flight next to a Silicon Valley high school educational coach who helps soon to graduate high schoolers choose a higher ed path. I explained our dilemma. He said the way to improve ed is to get more Asian children in it because Asian families have high expectations of their children and put the ed system on call to meet it.

This article substantiates his critique.
