TOP WAYS PED CAN HELP TEACHERS SUCCEED?

Dear New Mexico teachers, school personnel, and concerned parents,

Will you please take a few minutes to give me your feedback on how the PED can help you and your students be successful?
PED SECRETARY ROMERO’S LETTER
At our December meeting, we discussed PED Secretary Romero’s recent letter about the need for accountability for the poor academic performance in NM schools.   If you haven’t seen the letter, it is here:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uU1KvbPc0KSRizag90A7V1Rpt31LzTUT/view

TEACHERS AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL CONCERNS ABOUT THE LETTER
Teachers and school personnel in our meeting expressed concerns that the the PED and local school districts are imposing things upon the teachers and classrooms which make it more difficult for students to succeed and have better academic performance.
For instance, some districts have class sizes that are too large, some teachers are not allowed to hold-back students who are not ready to move to the next grade, teachers are not given enough leeway to teach in the ways that would be most effective, parent participation is almost nonexistent now after COVID, etc.

PLEASE SEND ME YOUR IDEAS ON HOW THE PED AND YOUR LOCAL DISTRICT COULD HELP YOU
I will compile your inputs to share with PED Secretary Romero on ways the PED can help you all succeed.

*Will you please send me your ideas of the Top 1-3 things the PED/your local district could do to help you and your students succeed?
*I will keep you all anonymous, but please tell me what school district you are in.

Once I have your inputs, I will narrow the items down to a manageable list that can be sent to the PED on behalf of NM teachers. I will of course send you the letter as well.

Also, let me know if any of you are interested in helping to review the letter before it is finalized.

Standing with you for the health and well-being of NM’s children,
Sarah
