Ms Luchinni’s comments today were strictly her own.
For the record, and you can quote me on this ” CCIA has never stated the Council wanted to defund the police”. Only I or Beth Bousquet, our Communications Lead, speak for CCIA.
There are some folks in the community that believe the council did “defund”. Especially during the 2020 BLM riots.
Not all are associated with us. How they arrived at that point, and what “defund” means, I cant always follow.
What I did state today (without naming her publicly because it was my opinion) was Councilor Bencomo seemed “visibly” perturbed during the 15 June 2020 LC Council Zoom meeting when LCPD asked for additional resources. Compared to public works….You can confirm this.
What I have stated publicly, was I disagreed with the number of officers requested by LCPD, even though Chief Dominguez seemed ok with the number. He didnt agree with the formula used in various parts of the nation.
Having spoken to various NMSP, to include senior officers, all felt more officers would make more of an impact. I think we can all agree with this thought.
